MiCA Crypto Alliance Welcomes Regulated Electronic Money Institution Monerium as a Member

The MiCA Crypto Alliance is pleased to welcome Monerium as a new member of the Alliance. As part of this collaboration, the Alliance is supporting the review of the MiCA-compliant white paper for EURe, along with iXBRL conversion and the preparation of MiCA-aligned ESG data.
About Monerium
Monerium is an authorised Electronic Money Institution supervised by the Central Bank of Iceland and passported across the European Economic Area. It is also registered as a Virtual Asset Service Provider with the same authority.
Under its EMI licence, Monerium issues euro and other fiat-denominated e-money tokens on public blockchains, integrating regulatory obligations such as safeguarding and redemption at par with on-chain settlement. This framework enables electronic money to function across both European banking systems and multiple blockchains in compliance with applicable electronic money and MiCA requirements.
Why this matters
E-money tokens occupy a distinct position within the European regulatory framework. They are issued by authorised electronic money institutions or credit institutions and combine safeguarding and redemption obligations with blockchain-based deployment and public disclosure requirements under MiCA.
As an authorised electronic money institution issuing across multiple EEA jurisdictions and public blockchain networks, Monerium’s regulatory status and technical architecture must be clearly reflected in MiCA-compliant documentation.
“Our mission has been to make euros interoperable with public blockchain networks, recognising that regulated money must be able to function within digital settlement systems. Early on, we determined that issuing fiat onchain required a full Electronic Money Institution licence, which we obtained in 2019.
With the introduction of MiCA, a single European framework now governs e-money tokens. Working with the MiCA Crypto Alliance supports our commitment to ensuring that issuance, safeguarding, and disclosure are clearly structured and consistently applied under that framework.”
