DFINITY Joins the MiCA Crypto Alliance to Advance Open, Decentralised Blockchain Infrastructure

The MiCA Crypto Alliance is proud to welcome the DFINITY Foundation as a new member. As part of this collaboration, the Alliance has authored a MiCA-compliant white paper for ICP, the native token of the Internet Computer blockchain. This work supports DFINITY’s ongoing commitment to clear and transparent disclosures in line with the requirements of the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) Regulation.
About DFINITY and ICP
DFINITY is a Swiss not-for-profit foundation that advances the development and adoption of the Internet Computer. It conducts research in cryptography, distributed systems and protocol engineering, and supports a global community of developers building on the network. Although DFINITY is a major contributor to the protocol, it is one of several decentralised participants in the ecosystem. Its proposals are subject to adoption through the Network Nervous System (NNS), the Internet Computer’s on-chain governance system.
The Internet Computer is a decentralised Layer 1 blockchain that hosts smart contracts, known as canisters, capable of serving interactive web applications directly from the chain. It provides on-chain compute, storage and web-serving, reducing reliance on traditional cloud infrastructure. The protocol uses chain-key cryptography and subnet blockchains for efficient verification and horizontal scaling across independently operated node providers. Governance is managed by the NNS, which coordinates upgrades and network configuration.
Why this matters
DFINITY’s membership strengthens the Alliance’s work to establish shared MiCA compliance standards across Layer-1 networks and the wider crypto-asset market. As foundational protocols continue to evolve into critical digital infrastructure, the need for clear, consistent and verifiable disclosures becomes increasingly important. By collaborating on consistent sustainability data, transparent technical documentation and MiCA-aligned white papers, the Alliance helps ensure that networks like the Internet Computer can meet regulatory expectations efficiently and with credibility.
Looking ahead
The ICP white paper will be published shortly as a public resource to support MiCA implementation. Further details will be announced in due course.
