Redemption Rights
The legal right of a token holder to exchange their stablecoin or asset-backed token with the issuer for the underlying reference asset or fiat currency at par value.

Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS)
Mandatory binding rules developed by ESMA and EBA under EU law to specify how MiCA rules must be applied and reported technically.

Official regulatory guidelines detailing technical formatting, metadata tagging, and submission procedures for white papers.
Request for Information (RFI)
A formal, written inquiry issued by a National Competent Authority (NCA) during the regulatory evaluation of a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) dossier. An initial RFI can legally pause the statutory assessment clock for up to 20 working days while the applicant compiles missing operational data, governance disclosures, or technical evidence.
Reverse Solicitation
An exemption allowing EU clients to initiate services with a third-country crypto firm without triggering local licensing requirements for the firm.
Self-Hosted Wallet (Un-hosted Wallet)
A non-custodial software or hardware wallet where the user retains exclusive control over their private keys and assets.
Shallow Tagging
Shallow tagging applies single metadata tags to entire paragraphs.
Smart Contract
A self-executing digital program stored on a blockchain that automatically executes actions when predetermined conditions are met.
Specified Investment Cryptoasset
A crypto-asset that confers rights similar to traditional financial instruments (such as tokenized shares or bonds) and is regulated under standard UK securities legislation.
Stablecoin
A type of cryptocurrency whose value is pegged to another asset, such as a fiat currency (e.g., USD, EUR) or gold.
Staking
The act of locking up crypto-assets in a blockchain network to support network operation, security, and consensus, in exchange for earning staking rewards.
Suitability Assessment
An evaluation conducted by CASPs to assess a retail client’s knowledge, financial situation, and risk tolerance before providing advisory or portfolio services.
Superficial Validation vs. Material Compliance
The contrast between passing automated syntax checks (superficial validation) versus meeting substantive legal and financial disclosures (material compliance).
Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR)
EU regulation imposing ESG disclosure duties on financial market participants and fund managers.
Tokenized Securities (Tokenized Financial Instruments)
Traditional financial instruments (shares, bonds) represented as DLT tokens, regulated in the EU under MiFID II rather than MiCA.
Tokenomics

Trading Platform

Triple-Entry Accounting
An accounting system where traditional double-entry records are cryptographically verified and recorded on a shared public blockchain.
Utility Token
A crypto-asset intended solely to provide access to a specific application, service, or digital resource offered by its issuer.
Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP)
The pre-MiCA term is defined by FATF for entities providing virtual asset exchange, transfer, or custody services.
Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCM)
Decentralized or centralized markets where carbon credits are bought and sold voluntarily by organizations seeking to offset their carbon footprint.
Voluntary MiCA White Paper
A white paper filed voluntarily by decentralized protocols or issuers seeking market credibility despite qualifying for exemptions.
Wrapped Token
A crypto-asset whose value is pegged to another original asset on a different blockchain (e.g., Wrapped Bitcoin/WBTC on Ethereum), facilitated via smart contracts or custodians.
Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs)
Cryptographic methods enabling one party to prove to another that a statement is true without revealing any underlying information (critical for privacy and scaling).
