Roundtable on MiCA Implementation: Reflections from the XRPL Commons Blockchain Research Summit, Paris

At the XRPL Blockchain Research Summit in Paris on 16 and 17 June, the first edition of a two-day format convened by XRPL Commons, our Digital Asset Regulatory Specialist Eya Abid joined a roundtable titled on the practical implementation of EU crypto regulation. Eya was joined by Belén Suárez López (INATBA) and William O'Rorke (ADAN), with Perrine de Coëtlogon (Open Education Global) moderating.

A summit built for outputs, not just discussion
The summit brings together researchers, builders, and EU regulatory representatives for technical discussions and policy dialogue, with the aim of producing tangible outcomes: the XRPL Commons Research Anthology, a set of open research questions, and collaboration initiatives between academia, industry, and policymakers. Five working groups, covering cryptography and privacy, interoperability, AI and blockchain, compliance, and European digital trust, anchored the two days, alongside a dedicated Young Researcher and Industry Track.
Where the roundtable focused
The EU Regulation Roundtable, held on Day 1, centred on the practical implementation of EU crypto regulation. Eya shared insights from the Alliance on how the MiCA framework is being applied in practice and the challenges arising from its real-world implementation, drawing on the Alliance's work advising builders and institutions navigating MiCA's requirements. The roundtable also included perspectives from INATBA, ADAN, and Open Education Global, bringing policy, industry association, and academic viewpoints into the same conversation.

Why this matters
The Alliance's involvement in forums like this reflects a consistent view: regulatory frameworks improve when the people implementing them have a direct channel to the people shaping them. A summit that pairs technical research working groups with a regulatory roundtable, and aims to produce a published anthology and a set of open research questions, creates exactly that channel.
Looking ahead
We look forward to seeing the XRPL Commons Research Anthology and the resulting research questions once published, and to continuing the dialogue on MiCA implementation with INATBA, ADAN, and the wider XRPL Commons community.
Thank you to XRPL Commons for convening the summit, and to Belén Suárez López (INATBA), Perrine de Coëtlogon (Open Education Global), and William O'Rorke (ADAN) for the discussion.
