Every Crypto Needs a Passport: Juan Ignacio Ibañez on MiCA’s Global Impact

Our General Secretary, Juan Ignacio Ibañez, recently sat down with The Crypto Radio to discuss what the EU’s landmark Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation really means for the industry. As Juan explains, under MiCA, even something as light-hearted as a memecoin launched in Europe will require proper legal preparation. In other words, every crypto will need a “passport” to operate within the EU.

But this is more than just a compliance exercise. From drafting MiCA-compliant white papers to advocating for climate accountability, Juan emphasised that regulation is not about slowing innovation,  it’s about building trust and setting global standards.

“We’re not just trying to comply, we’re trying to contribute to an open-source movement,” he said.

Key points from the interview include:

  • Why every crypto needs a “passport” to access the EU market

  • How MiCA is redefining accountability in decentralised finance

  • What comes next for builders navigating Europe’s new rules

At the MiCA Crypto Alliance, we believe clarity, transparency, and accountability are essential to the future of digital assets. Our insights highlight how MiCA can serve not only as a European framework but as a model for responsible innovation worldwide.
